The third edition of William S. Pfeiffer’s textbook, Technical Writing: A Practical Approach, fulfills the promise of its title, approaching the field of technical communication in a straightforward, practical manner. The scholarly minded may well object to the less descriptive term “technical writing” used in the title, perhaps preferring the now more generally accepted term “technical communication.” Practically, though, we tend to use the term “technical writing” as inclusive of the tasks technical communicators perform.
