Role of solar radio observations in Space Weather

The role of radio science in Space Weather ranges from use of radio techniques to measure plasma parameters at the Sun and in the heliosphere via remote-sensing, to direct impact of radio noise on wireless systems at Earth. This paper focuses on radio emission from the Sun, and summarizes the Space-Weather-relevant diagnostics available with a suite of new instruments capable of broadband radio imaging spectropolarimetry. We also discuss the potential for radio noise to directly interfere with Global Positioning System receivers, cellular telephone, and other wireless systems.
