A power supply solution for high-voltage IGBT drivers

IGBTs with blocking voltages of 3300V up to 6500V can be found in the market for many years. These power electronic devices greatly simplifies the structure of topology used in high power devices, and on the other hand put many challenges on its driver's power supply unit. This paper first talks about conventional flyback power supply for low-voltage IGBT drivers. This kind of DC/DC converter may face some issues that favor other isolated DC/DC topology. Thus, a power supply solution for high-voltage IGBT drivers is proposed to better work for compact drivers. This DC/DC converter has a lot of advantages such as convenience of control, improved reliability and so on. Voltage multipliers are analyzed and used to work with the forward topology to get different voltage levels for the driver.
