The Impact of International Greenhouse Gas Emission Constraints on Coal-Fired Power Plant in China-Based on LCAModel

The Coal-fired power industry accounts for more than 80% of total power generating capacity in China. However, the coal-fired power stations produce approximately 10% of the global total carbon dioxide emissions. This paper uses Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) method to calculate carbon emissions of a typical coal-fired power station in China. The result shows that carbon emission per Kilowatt-Hour (kWh) of the power plant is 1.018 kilogram. Besides, it is assumed that carbon tax will be imposed on power plants in China in the future. Supposing carbon tax rate is 20~200 Yuan/ton, the cost of power plant will increase 0.0204~0.2036 Yuan/kWh. As a result, the international greenhouse gas (GHG) emission constraints will have great negative impact on China's coal-fired power plant.
