New Diagnostic Tools for Early Detection of TB

TB is a global problem. The national TB programs in China, a country with a high burden of TB, are particularly challenged by multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB). In order to effectively control the spread of TB, a method to rapidly and accurately diagnose TB is urgently needed. Recent developments in science and technology have led to the establishment of a number of new diagnostic technologies, such as loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP), linear probe assay, GeneXpert MTB/RIF detection, and gene chip analysis. Many of these methods are currently under evaluation. Data from the evaluation, application, and impact assessment of these products will serve as a major reference for governmental decision-making regarding the formation and revision of guidelines for TB diagnosis.
