CFD analysis of the water spray system with the vertical arranged nozzle for the pre-cooling in natural draft dry cooling towers

CFD analysis of the water spray system with the vertical arranged nozzle (VAN) for the inlet air pre-cooling is presented to improve the performance of a 20m height natural draft cooling tower in UQ Gatton campus. The comparison between the pre cooling effect of the horizontal arranged nozzle (HAN) and the VAN shows that when air velocity is small, the pre-cooling effect of the VAN is much better than that of the HAN. The impact of many physical parameters on the maximum fully evaporated water flow rate is also investigated. The results are of great significance for the optimization design and operation of the water spray system.
