Applications for Non-GNSS Positioning Systems

The widespread adoption of GPS in mobile devices has meant that there has been an explosion in applications (or commonly called “Apps” on mobile devices such as cellular phones and Tablets) that use location information to provide useful services. Apart from direct navigation and tracking functions for vehicles and to a lesser extent people, location assistance services can be a component of more general applications, such as providing “position stamping” of photos taken on a phone, or providing a list of local providers of services (such as shops, restaurants, etc.) based on the current GPS location.
