THE COMPARISON OF ACCIDENT COUNTS UP TO THE PRESENT DATE

It is a common practice in Australia to compare one year's road accident count up to the current date with the count for the same period of the previous year. If the correct significance is to be placed on any difference, it must be noted that there is a far greater chance of there being a given difference at some time during the year than at a particular time during the year. Tables and approximate formulas are given for assigning the correct significance.
