In DPF design, uniform deposition of PM and high regeneration performance is a key factor, particularly in a heavy-duty applications. However, it is not easy to obtain uniform deposition of PM due to flow mal-distribution within substrate, leading to local thermal excursion during regeneration causing thermal crack. Hence, the main purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of mixer on the flow distribution and temporal thermal behaviour in a substrate during regeneration. This work also performed CFD simulations to predict quantitative effect of swirler on flow uniformity and perssure drop. From the results of this study, it is found that mixer be optimized in terms of location and blade shape to help alleviate flow mal-distribution in a PDPF substrate, leading to uniform thermal heat generation during regeneration.
