Design and Application of a Multirate Octave-Band Filter Bank on A-weighting Analysis of Vehicle Noises

The accurate extraction of the octave-band spectrum is a key point for the sound pressure level (SPL) analysis of vehicle noises. A multirate octave-band filter bank (OBFB) based on a set of low-pass and band-pass Butterworth filters is discussed in this chapter. By using the functions in the MATLAB toolbox, the OBFB was performed for the calculation of the A-weighted SPL of a vehicle noise. The comparison with the measured result suggests that, due to its powerful antialiasing characteristics, the newly designed OBFB is accurate and feasible for the A-weighting analysis of vehicle noises, which may be used as a reference for sound quality evaluation in other sound-related fields.
