Production of synthesis gas via methane reforming with CO2 on noble metals and small amount of noble-(Rh-) promoted Ni catalysts

Abstract Several supported metal (Ru, Rh, Pt, Pd, Ir, Ni, Co) catalysts were prepared and used for methane reforming with CO 2 . Nobel metals (5 wt%, loading amount) showed higher coke resistance ability, while their activity was lower than that of Ni and Co (10 wt%, loading amount). Pulse CO adsorption experiments indicated that the dispersion of noble metals (such as Rh) depended strongly on its loading amount and the surface area of the support. Rh dispersed highly on meso-porous Al 2 O 3 (with high surface area) and exhibited higher coke resistance ability and higher reforming activity. At the same time, small amount of Rh enhanced obviously both the reforming activity and coke resistance ability of Ni.
