Posterior Tibial and Anterior Tibial Tendon Transfers for Rebalancing the Foot in Neuromuscular Disorders

Surgical techniques were developed for the transfer of the posterior tibial tendon anteriorly and anterior tibial tendon to midfoot for the patient with a neuromuscular disorder. The purpose of these changes was to allow such patients to walk in their casts as quickly as possible postoperatively. Details including surgical technique are given for transfer success. Current methods of anchoring the transferred tendon are discussed. Postoperative care and the possibility of errors and complications were also brought out in this otherwise safe, timetested, and successful procedure.
