Measurement of Biological Reaction Rates Using Advanced pH Control Systems

This paper shows that the advanced pH control systems proposed here can be widely applied to measurement of biological reaction rates. In many cases, biological reaction rate could be calculated from the amount of base or acid required for keeping pH constant. A microbial growth rate and an enzyme reaction rate have been estimated successfully using the advanced pH control system, such as the disturbance predictive controller and the PF systems with learning mechanism. The basic analysis also showed that the overall production rate of acid in a batch culture of hybridoma cell must be estimated using the advanced pH control system.
