Control of Lead in Drinking Water.

Abstract : This report describes the installation of an NRL-developed epoxy lining in the drinking water distribution system in three buildings. Water was sampled before and after installation of the lining; the sampling data was interpreted after several confounding factors were identified and allowed for. Improper installation of the lining in one of the buildings led to its premature failure, and this was documented and analyzed. The lining is shown to be effective in preventing leaching of lead into drinking water. This technology is recommended as a routine method for excluding lead from drinking water distribution systems in buildings, and guidance for use in establishing contracts to install the lining is provided.
