Describes a current-mode electrical stimulator that can generate a wide range of either monophasic or biphasic current pulses: amplitude (0.10 mA), frequency (0-1000 Hz) and pulse width (0.05-3.15 msec). These parameters are fully controlled and programmed through PC-software. Up to 8 independent and simultaneous channels can be activated continuously. The stimulator, designed to fit in one ISA expansion slot of a PC, is a mixed-signal device composed of a digital part implemented in Field Programmable Devices (FPDs) and an analog specific flexible interface. The system is intended for stimulation of the primary motor cortex with the aim of evoking a muscle twitch or movement.
