BEHAVIOUR OF SHEAR CONNECTOR DEVICES FOR LIGHTWEIGHT STEEL-CONCRETE COMPOSITE STRUCTURES - RESULTS, OBSERVATIONS AND COMPARISONS OF STATIC TESTS

The results of push-out tests on shear connector devices for steel-concrete composite structures/bridges carried out in the Stevin laboratory are presented. Different concrete grades and compositions have been used, like lightweight concrete, lightweight high strength concrete, ordinary concrete, and high strength concrete, both with, and without steel fibres. Devices tested included headed studs, perfobondstrips, oscillating perfobondstrips, waveform strips and T-connectors. The tests are done as specified in EuroCode 4 for standard push-out tests. For a number of devices unexpected behaviour has been observed during testing, like brittle splitting failure for the (oscillating) perfobondstrip in normal concrete, and more ductile behaviour for lightweight concrete. A direct comparison is possible for the behaviour of a specific shear connector device in combination with a variety of concrete grades and compositions.
