Draught Requirements of Tillage Implements Operating on Sandy Loam Soil

The effects of speed and depth on the draught of a chisel plough, an offset disk harrow, a mouldboard plough and a disk plough were investigated on two different sites. Soil classification, implement specifications and results of tillage experiments are reported. A significant increase in draught was observed for all the implements with an increase in depth. The specific draughts of the four tillage implements tested were affected significantly by speed and depth also. The relationships between specific draught and speed are presented graphically.
