Lacunarity Based Estimator for the Analysis of Cell Nuclei from the Papanicolaou Smears

Computer aided medical diagnosis requires dedicated algorithms dependent on the content of acquired image. Cervical cytoscreening is cell nuclei and cytoplasm oriented. Lacunarity based estimator for cell nuclei texture analysis is proposed in the paper. The cell size in pre–classification is also applied as main criterion in discrimination. The application of lacunarity improves the separation between atypical and correct cells nuclei region with similar cells sizes. Five cases are tested related to the selection of proper color channel.
