The invention discloses a metal composite friction damper which comprises an upper connecting plate, a lower connecting plate, a left clamping plate, a right clamping plate, a left friction plate, a right friction plate, a core metal plate and first connecting pieces, wherein the left clamping plate is connected with one of the upper connecting plate and the lower connecting plate, and the right clamping plate is connected with the one of the upper connecting plate and the lower connecting plate; the left friction plate is arranged on the right side surface of the left clamping plate, and the right friction plate is arranged on the left side surface of the right clamping plate; the core metal plate is arranged between the left friction plate and the right friction plate and connected with the other of the upper connecting plate and the lower connecting plate, and via holes are formed in the core metal plate and extend in the length direction of the core metal plate; and the first connecting pieces penetrate through the left clamping plate, the left friction plate, the via holes, the right friction plate and the right clamping plate. According to the embodiments of the invention, the metal composite friction damper achieves friction energy consumption through stable friction force, so that large deformation and better hysteretic behavior can be achieved.
