USING AUTOMATED ASSISTANCE SYSTEMS : PUTTING THE DRIVER INTO FOCUS

In this paper, the author proposes a system which combines driver support systems with in-vehicle communication technologies such as e- mail and Internet access. Focus is on the driver interface which deals with the presentation of the information and driver inputs. A simulator test which examines the take-over reaction time and the brake reaction time is described. Results indicate that further research in combining telematics technologies with automatic driving functions is needed.
