Comparison of Risk analysis methods and Development of a Template for Risk Characterisation

In the context of the Institutional Activity COMPASS "Risk Comparability and Integrated Risk Assessment" of the Joint Research Centre of the European Commission, a specific study entitled "Comparison of Risk Analysis Methods and Development of a Template for Risk Characterisation" was conducted. The objective of this study was twofold: 1. to carry out a comparative analysis of existing risk analysis approaches, for estimating the technological accidental risks related with the process industry and the transportation of dangerous goods by road, rail and pipelines, over member States (MS), Candidate Countries (CC) and other relevant countries; and 2. to develop a template for the characterisation of the outcome of risk analysis and of the risk analysis process itself. The mission of the Joint Research Centre is to provide customer-driven scientific and technical support for the conception, development, implementation and monitoring of European Union policies. As a service of the European Commission, the JRC functions as a reference centre of science and technology for the Union. Close to the policy-making process, it serves the common interest of the Member States, while being independent of special interests, whether private or national.
