Is the standard elliptical NGC 3379 a triaxial disk galaxy

The two-dimensional B-band surface brightness distribution of NGC 3379 is used to investigate whether this elliptical galaxy contains a small disk. It is concluded that the galaxy has a small, unfavorably oriented, but detectable disk whose parameters are presented. The bulge of the galaxy is remarkably similar to the one of NGC 3115, a well-known S0 galaxy. This similarity is used to show that a partial deprojection of the bulge of NGC 3379 is possible. The bulge is probably triaxial. 43 refs.
