Up-conversion Luminescence in Er3+- and Yb3+-doped Fluorozirconate Glasses

Intense luminescence with up-conversion has been studied for Er3+- and Yb3+-doped fluorozirconate glasses (ZBLAN). Effective infrared-to-visible conversion has investigated by pumping the glasses with radiation of InGaAs quantum well semiconductor laser at 980 nm. Luminescence has been observed in green (515-550 nm) for Er3+-doped ZBLAN glasses. Intra- and intercenter processes and low efficient intracenter multiphonon interlevel relaxations were considered as mechanisms involved in the upconversion.
