Harmonic Impedance Analysis in the Presence of Static Var Compensator (SVC)

Resonance have been considered in relation to capacitors. Where local resonance exists, excessive harmonic currents can flow, resulting in damage to the tuning capacitors. For harmonic calculations it is important to model the frequency behavior of the grid components in a correct way. One practical project done by KEMA for an American utility was presented in this paper. Detailed harmonic impedance calculations are required for specification and operations of the SVC and MSC banks. The purpose of the study is to determine the design of a FACTS device that solves the dynamic VAr deficiency in that system
