Q-DSR protocol in vehicular ad-hoc networks

Multimedia streaming services in vehicular ad-hoc networks (VANETs) became a focus of many researchers. Achieving stable and high streaming rate under the high dynamic topology is considered a major challenge in such networks. Several approaches have been proposed to improve the existing routing protocols. However, some protocols ignore the QoS requirements needed for VANET safety and multimedia services whereas other protocols do not consider the high mobility of such networks while selecting the paths. In this paper, we improve the performance of the Dynamic Source Routing (DSR) protocol by enhancing the reliability of the network. This can be achieved by taking into account the QoS and the high speed constraints while selecting the paths. Thus, our solution is a new QoS-based DSR protocol that can increase both the stability and the reliability of the network. The simulation results show that the proposed protocol succeeds in improving the packet delivery ratio and reducing the probability of packet loss compared to the classical DSR protocol.
