Seismic Performance Evaluation of Diagrid System Buildings

In this study the seismic performance of typical diagrid structural systems was investigated. To this end diagrid structures with various slopes of external braces were designed and their seismic responses were obtained using nonlinear static and dynamic analyses. A tubular structure with the same dimension and a diagrid system with buckling-restrained braces were also analyzed for comparison. According to the analysis results the diagrid structures showed higher overstrength with smaller ductility compared with tubular structure. It was also observed that as the slope of braces increased the lateral strength decreased and the shear lag effect increased. Both the strength and the ductility of diagrid structures increased significantly when the diagonal members were replaced by buckling-restrained braces.
