The invention relates to a near-field radar apparatus, comprising a plurality of individual radar sensors distributed in a mounting area of ​​the radar device disposed side by side, wherein the radar sensors are distributed such that they are not arranged in a single straight line to each other. The invention also relates to a land, air or water vehicle with a control device for autonomous control or for at least one driver assistance system of the land, air or water vehicle, which uses the principle of the synthetic aperture radar, as well as the use of such radar device and a method of operation of such radar device. The invention also relates to a computer program for performing the method.
