Commercial Vision Systems

This chapter is divided into two distinct parts. The first emphasises the broad range of technological skills which the prospective customer of an automated vision system should seek in an equipment supplier, since it is most unwise to consider the image processing system alone and in isolation from the image acquisition, i.e. the illumination, optics and sensor (camera). The second part reviews some of the commercially available machine vision systems, intended specifically for industrial use. Finally, a check list of factors to be considered when designing an automated vision installation is provided in an appendix.
