COMPUTER-AIDED SIMULATIONS OF LARGE AMPLITUDE ROLL MOTIONS OF SHIPS IN WAVES AND OF DYNAMIC STABILITY

This paper deals with accounting for nonlinearities in damping and restoring terms in the development of a simplified but fundamental equation of roll motion. For the restoring term, this includes coupling with heave motion, a constant bias, and regular wave excitation. Both analytical-numerical and computer-aided methods are used to study roll response and the stability of the formulated nonlinear differential equation.
