Novel dual-channel-spacing WDM multi/demultiplexers based on phased-array waveguide grating

Summary form only given. Phase-arrayed waveguide grating (PAWG) multiplexer/demultiplexer (MUX/DMUX) is a key component for optical wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM) network. Conventional PAWG based devices are designed to yield one set of either constant channel-spacing or unequal channel spacing outputs. We report here a novel dual-channel-spacing PAWG MUX/DMUX using an asymmetric design for input and output channels. In particular, this device can operate under two channel-spacing-standards used in current WDM systems.
