Thermal Behavior in Tilting Pad Journal Bearings

Thermal behavior in tilting pad journal bearings is explored with a new computer code which accounts for several important thermal factors in addition to the usual Reynolds equation finite difference solution. These factors are: heat transfer to the shaft, heat transfer to and through the pad, mixing in the bearing cavity, mixing in inter-groove spaces, thermal warping of the pad, stress warping of the pad, and the effects of both temperature and turbulence on local film temperatures and total bearing performance.
