A Finite Element Method for the Calculation of the Electric Field and Potential Distribution along the 330 kV Line Composite Insulators

Calculation and evaluation of the electric field and potential distribution was performed in the design and development of composite insulators for 330 kV transmission lines. The effects of tower and conductor on the electric field and potential distribution along the insulators were investigated.Simulating calculation result shows severe field distortion at conductor and earthing top at 10 percent height of insulator adjacent to line and HV end.The conductor improves the electric potential distribution along the insulators.More apparent effect has the tower on field distribution on HV side, which was lowered by 60% in the case of the tower being equipped with conductor versus that without conductor.
