Transformation of tomatidine by Gymnoascus reesii.

Gymnoascus reesii degrades tomatidine after 120 h to products no more detectable by TLC. The intermediates, produced after 48 h of incubation, were identified as tomatanin-3α-ol, tomatidone, 4-tomatiden-3-one, 1-tomatiden-3-one, 1,4-tomatadien-3-one, and probably 15 β-hydroxytomatidone. The possible degradation pattern of tomatidine by Gymnoascus reesii is discussed.
