Comparative study of the impact of full scale wind turbines on inter-area oscillations

This paper investigates and analyzes the impact of Full-Scale Wind Turbine (FSWT) on the inter-area oscillation modes. The analysis and investigation have been carried out on a well-known two-area benchmark. The effect of the penetration level, installed locations and installed configuration on the dominant modes are investigated and characterized. The roles of existing AVRs and PSSs in the integration of FSWT are also discussed. The system analysis and modeling are performed in MATLAB-based software. Eigenvalues analysis and nonlinear time-domain simulations are presented. Based on the studied system, it is found that the full scale wind turbine has the capability to damp the inter-area oscillation.
