Genre-based Pedagogy and the Teaching of English Abstract Writing

This paper aims at exploring how the genre-based pdedagogy could be applied in the teaching of abstract writing.It briefly describes the theory of genre and genre-based pdedagogy,introduces the steps in the teaching and learning cycle,and analyzes the genre of abstract.And then it discusses how to design the student-centered classroom activities based on the guidance of the teaching and learning cycle.It is concluded that the application of genre-based pedagogy could help students better understand that texts of abstract are not only linguistic constructs,but also social meaningful constructs.
