A Markov-Based Packet-Level Error Model for VANET and Predicting

Vehicular Ad hoc Network(VANET),a subclass of mobile Ad hoc Networks(MANETs),is a promising approach for future intelligent transportation system(ITS).Understanding and modeling packet error in the VANET is especially relevant to the design and analysis of higher layer wireless communication protocols. In this paper,it is shown that the packet error sequences based on measurements in live VANET are capable of representing the nature of the channel.A Packet-Level Error(PLE)model based on Markov chains is presented in this paper. The parameters of the model are obtained from the statistical behavior of the packet error sequences. Finally,it is shown that both the accuracy and the efficiency of the suggested PLE model outperform those of a widely used Gilbert-Elliott model.
