Numerical Simulation of Explosion Using ALE Method

Explosion was analyzed by using Arbitrary Lagrangian-Eulerian(ALE) algorithm, the general governing equations were derived. Finally, the 3-D numerical simulation of cylindric charge explosion in semi-infinite soil medium was successfully realized with ALE algorithm, the calculated results agree with the experiment results very well. Such as the formation and development of cavitation and the formation of secondary wave were analyzed according to the simulation results. Through the 3-D numerical simulation, it proves that the ALE method combines both the advantages of Lagrangian and Eulerian representations in a single description, so it become an efficient method for numerical simulation of explosion.
