The paper analyses thebenefits givenby a compoundstorage systemwithbatteries andsupercapacitors on boardofroadelectrical vehicles supplied byfuelcells. A control strategy forthemanagementoftheenergy isdeveloped forthe maximization ofthevehicle autonomyandfortheincrease ofthe electrochemical battery life. Thecontroller isbased on twofinite state machines anditisimplemented on thedc/dc converters that interface fuelcellsand supercapacitors to thebatteries. Experimental testsmade on a sampleelectrical drivefully validate theeffectiveness ofthesuggested control technique.
