Note on the elastic properties of zircon

VRH moduli, compressibility, Debye temperature, and Gruneisen constant of zircon are evaluated from three sets of elastic constants available in literature. The values of the compressibility, Young’s modulus, Debye temperature, and Gruneisen constant derived from the three sets are subjected to a critical examination. It is concluded that the elastic constants of zircon reported by Ryzhova et al. and by Ozkan et al. are physically realistic as against the values reported by Bhimsenachar and Venkataratnam.
