Research on direct torque control of switched reluctance motor with improved commutation strategy

Direct torque control (DTC) of switched reluctance motor (SRM) is one of the simple and effective torque control methods aim at the reduction of torque ripple and the acquisition of high accuracy torque control. However, due to the nonlinearity of SRM, the control quality can be worse during commutation. This paper analyzes the principle of conventional DTC and explains why the torque is not control well when commutation occurs. A new commutation strategy considering the SRM nature and using the prediction of torque change rate is proposed in this paper. Simulation results show that the proposed method has largely improved the torque control quality compared with the traditional DTC.
