Multilevel Codes with Hierarchical Set Partitioning

ABSTRACT Two novel multilevel coding schemes are proposed. The first multilevel coding structure is based on set partitioning of an inner multilevel code and the second one is a modified design in which the partition chain is constructed from a multilevel code with interblock memory. Simulation results show that the proposed schemes can achieve good error performance with low decoding complexity. As a result, the proposed coding schemes provide more design flexibility under various communication conditions.
