ON TONOMETRY

The object of the present investigation was to determine whether the amount of the variation in intraocular pressure, when changing from the sitting to the lying position, was influenced by the original pressure level. Armaly & Salamoun (1963) found that the level of pressure was of no significance in this respect. They investigated normal eyes in 38 individuals, with a pressure level in the sitting position mostly of between 10 and 18 mm Hg. This range of pressures was not large, and it is considered that a greater range of pressures may be necessary before excluding the possibility that the original pressure level may effect the amount of the variation in intraocular pressure on postural change.
