Abstract The history of boiler development was, in a sense, the struggle against explosions. The boiler explosion was recognized as explosions of gunpowder, as being comparable in its influence on the surroundings. Thus the present highly developed boiler technologies are largely indebted for all attempts against explosions. This chapter describes the history of boiler explosions and third-party inspection system together with codes or standards for safety of boilers. In the last part of this chapter, current inspection technologies are briefly reviewed.
