Introduction to Part V

Although the production of intelligent motor output reflects many elements of the control system, including the sensors, the central integrative elements and stored experience as well as the effectors and their immediate control elements, the present part will focus on those elements that participate directly in the immediate generation and control of movement, i.e., motor control. Sensing per se was considered in the previous part; higher level functions such as selection or integration of behaviors and changes through experience will be considered in subsequent parts.
