Spatial distribution pattern of carbon storage in forest vegetation of Guangdong province

Based on the forest resource inventory data of 2007 in Guangdong province, the carbon storage was quantified by using volume-derived method and the spatial distribution pattern of forest vegetation carbon storage in Guangdong province was studied. The study result showed that the forest vegetation carbon storage in Guangdong province was 246.35 Tg. The forest vegetation carbon density was 22.96 mg·hm-2. The forest vegetation carbon storage in Guangdong province was unevenly distributed in different economic regions and different drainage areas resulting from the disturbance of human beings and other possible enviroments. In respect of different economic regions, the forest vegetation carbon storage in north Guangdong was the largest with a mean of 180.22 Tg , while the order of the other three economic regions was The Pearl River Delta(34.60 Tg) west Guangdong(21.49 Tg) east Guangdong(10.04 Tg). While in respect of different drainage areas, the forest vegetation carbon storage showed the order of the Bei-jiang River basin the Dongjiang River basin the Xijiang River basin the Hanjiang River basin the other river basins. The forest carbon storage in Guangdong province was 202.85 Tg. The percentage of young and middle forest was 77.1%. The age struc-ture of forest showed direct proportion with carbon density approximately.
