Issues in the combination of visual and haptic interaction

This paper discusses possibilities and problems arising in the design of usable interactive systems when both visual and haptic interaction modes are available. Communicational and operational features of such a system are studied, and first set of problems that can arise for a typical end user are identified. Some experimental results are reported that give indications on how to face some of these problems integrating the two interaction modes.
