Application of expert system (ES) technology in fault diagnosis of steam turbine generators

An on-line diagnostic expert system (ES) for generators is presented in this paper, in which the automatic diagnostic mode and man-machine interactive diagnostic mode are used to evaluate the state of generators based on the knowledge-based system (KBS). The hybrid reasoning strategy fused by the forward chaining as well as case-based reasoning (CBR) are used to meet the request of generators diagnosis, as well uncertain reasoning methods based on the confidence factor (CF) model to overcome the limitation of uncertainty, inexactness and imperfectness in the experiential knowledge of human experts. The fault diagnostic expert system (FDES) had obtained satisfied results to diagnose the insulating system of generators. Furthermore, the primary study on the virtual electrical hospital (VEH) based on LAN and Internet has also been carried out.
