Study on the job satisfaction and job stressors among contract nurses in Grade III hospitals in Beijing

Objective: To investigate contract nurses'job satisfaction and job stres-sors in Grade III hospitals in Beijing. Method: Two hundred and fifty two contract nursesfrom nine Grade III hospitals in Beijing were recruited by the method of cluster samplingand quota sampling and were investigated with MMSS Job Satisfaction Inventory, JobStressor Questionnaire, as well as a self-designed questionnaire including nurses in-come and welfare and resign intention. Results: The contract nurses got higher scores inthe factors of colleague relationship and being complimented, while lower scores in thefactors of income welfare and career development. Their main job stressors were lowincome and welfare, few opportunities of promotion, low social status, worrying aboutmedical errors and patients accidental death. 27.4% of the contract nurses reportedresign intention and the main influencing factors were income welfare and beingcomplimented. Conclusion: In order to stabilize the team of contract nurses, it is sug-gested to really implement the principle of same income with the same job based on theregulations and laws, reduce the difference in income welfare between contract nursesand staff nurses, provide more promotion opportunities and spiritual encouragement forthe contract nurses.
