20 Jahre Anbau von gentechnisch veränderten Pflanzen (GVP) : Bilanz und Ausblick seitens wissenschaftlicher Gremien in den USA

In the past 20 years, commercial cultivation of GEC has increased worldwide from 1.6 (1996) to around 180 million ha (2015). Maize, soybeans, cotton and oilseed rape are the most important plants that were cultivated in this period. To mark the occasion of this jubilee, the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine and other scientific bodies in the USA have undertaken a comprehensive analysis of such cultivation and its potentials/perspectives ("Genetically Engineered Crops: Experiences and Prospects"; The National Academies Press; 2016; 420 p.). This article examines selected statements made in this study.
