In this paper, kinematic analysis of a general knuckle press is made for application to metal forming simulation. The predictions for and upsetting process with the knuckle press are compared with those obtained using averaged constant velocity for the same process in terms of the forming load as well as the deformed shape. The materials tested are rate-dependent and their dependencies ranging from 0.05 to 0.2 are examined to reveal the effect of die or tool velocities on the predictions of metal forming processes.
